Who we are

Home of Ease is the name under which Niels Noordam, a private individual residing in the Netherlands, rents out three vacation villas: Villa Nisa, Villa Cinta and Villa Juno at Villapark Fontein, Curaçao. For this rental activity, Niels Noordam is the data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data.

Contact about this statement or about your data: info@homeofease.com.

What data we collect

Depending on what you do on the site, we may process the following data:

• Contact form: name, email address and your message.
• My Home of Ease (guest portal): your email address, to log you in and retrieve your booking from our booking system, MyTourist.
• Requests for extras, guestbook messages and tips: whatever you fill in on those forms yourself.
• Booking details (arrival/departure, guest count, invoice status): sourced from MyTourist, linked to your email address.

What we use this data for, and on what legal basis

The GDPR requires us to state a purpose and a legal basis for each processing activity:

• Contact form – to answer your question. Legal basis: legitimate interest (being of service to you).
• Guest portal and booking data – to manage your booking and give you access to your reservation. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
• Requests for extras – to process your request. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
• Guestbook messages and tips – to (optionally) show these on the site. Legal basis: your consent.
• Analytics – to see how many visitors the site has and which pages are popular. Legal basis: your consent.
• Retaining booking and invoice data – due to the Dutch Tax Authority's statutory record-keeping obligation. Legal basis: legal obligation.

Data we receive via external booking platforms

If you book through an external booking platform (for example Micazu, Airbnb or VRBO), we receive from that platform the data needed to process your booking in our booking system, MyTourist — such as your name, contact details and booking details (arrival/departure, guest count). Legal basis: performance of a contract.

The platform's own privacy statement applies to the data processing carried out by the platform itself; those platforms are independent data controllers.

How long we keep data

• Contact messages: up to 12 months after your question has been handled.
• Booking and invoice data: 7 years, under the Dutch Tax Authority's statutory record-keeping obligation (legal basis: legal obligation).
• Guest portal account: for as long as you make use of our rentals; after that we delete your account.
• Guestbook messages and tips: for as long as they remain on the site, or until you ask us to remove them.
• Analytics data: in line with the retention period we've configured in Google Analytics (14 months maximum).

Cookies

We use two types of cookies:

• Functional (always on): your language choice and your login session in My Home of Ease. Without these, the site doesn't work properly.
• Analytics (only with your consent): Google Analytics, to measure visitor numbers and popular pages. You can change your choice at any time via the button below.

Who we share data with (processors and third parties)

We only share data to the extent needed to provide our service:

• MyTourist – our booking system, for managing reservations.
• Postmark – for sending emails (e.g. your login code).
• Google Analytics – only if you've given consent.
• WhatsApp (Meta) – only if you choose to reach us via WhatsApp yourself. Meta processes those messages as an independent data controller under its own terms.

We sign data processing agreements with processors who handle data on our behalf. We never sell your data to third parties.

Transfers outside the European Economic Area (EEA)

Some of our service providers process data outside the EEA, notably in the United States (Postmark, Google Analytics and WhatsApp/Meta). For these transfers we rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) adopted by the European Commission and/or an adequacy decision, so your data remains appropriately protected there too.

Our villas are located in Curaçao, which is also outside the EEA. To the extent data is shared with local staff for your stay, this is limited to what's needed to fulfil your booking.

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss or unlawful use, such as secured connections and access limited to those who need the data.

Automated decision-making

We don't make decisions about you based on automated processing or profiling that produce legal effects concerning you.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• access your data;
• have your data corrected;
• have your data deleted;
• restrict the processing;
• object to the processing;
• have your data transferred (data portability);
• withdraw given consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Contact us via info@homeofease.com to exercise these rights. Disagree with how we handle your data? You can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) via autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

We may update this privacy statement from time to time. The most current version is always available on this page, with the date of the last change at the top.
